Pasture Board
Young Horse Development
Your young prospect only gets one chance to grow up...give them the opportunity to grow up healthy and strong! We offer a comprehensive pasture board program for weanlings all the way to starting under saddle. Professional, progressive, yet natural, we firmly believe that optimal social and physical well-being is achieved by raising youngsters as nature intended, with lots of space, lots of friends, balanced nutrition and regular, positive handling interactions. The education gained through herd dynamics, and the benefits to long-term soundness from free-range exercise, will set them up for a lifetime of success!
Your youngster will receive daily attention and a nutrition program based on their stage of development. Foals and weanlings will be halter broke, trained to pick up feet, and given opportunity to become comfortable coming into stalls. Youngsters will be dewormed according to their age, and all arrangements and handling for farrier, herd health, and veterinary care will be looked after, with regular communication and updates on your baby's progress. Colt owners will be consulted on an appropriate time for castration, which we can assist with on property or at a nearby clinic. We are happy to assist with registration requirements, preparation for breed inspections, and sales.
Regular, expert handling will establish confident, obedient behaviour and prepare your young horse for the next stages of training. Whether your foal was born here with us, or you are the proud new owner of a young purchase, we can give them an ideal home for their youth, and foster positive healthy development until they are ready to begin their careers!
Broodmare Management
While many broodmares will make use of our facility and services only during the critical times around foaling, or for the intense process of breeding, we welcome broodmares to stay with us on a long-term basis to meet their ongoing needs. Broodmares are welcome to stay until they are bred, until weaning time, or they may stay on until the following year to foal. With large lush pastures, mares can enjoy the peaceful company of other broodmares, and foals will be able to frolic and play with friends their own age. We can mitigate the stressful time of weaning by separating mothers alongside their peers, and allowing the cohort of foals to remain as an established group of friends. Mares returning to work after weaning may stay to be restarted under saddle before resuming their careers!
Mares will be monitored throughout their pregnancy, receiving daily attention and twice daily feeding, with adjustments made to their nutrition program as they progress through the stages of gestation. If you are using a recipient mare for embryo transfer, they too will be treated with the highest level of care while carrying your precious cargo! We can look after arrangements and handling for all routine mare care such as farrier, herd health, pregnancy checks and pre-foaling vaccinations, and will keep you updated with your mare's status and discuss your breeding and foaling plans, throughout her time here and from one from foal to the next!
